Technology Vision
-technology is effectively integrated into all parts of society
-technology tools are used to their full potential for solving problems and meeting needs by everyone
-technology allows for more interaction among all people and on an equal basis.
Technology is constantly changing so the way that learning takes place is becoming more individualized. Technology tools allow everyone to access and use information and knowledge when solving problems thus creating a world that is accessible to everyone. Technology allows information to be available through multimedia venues, when needed, by anyone for a multitude of purposes. So when a person, who learns best visually, needs to solve a problem. they can access the information visually and then determine the best way to proceed. If the person is confused, they can access someone with more expertise, than themselves, to ask a question. If a tool is needed, then a virtual one might be available through the internet. Learning disabilities that now impede a person's learning won't be an issue because technology will allow them to build on strengths and minimize weaknesses. Learning can take place anywhere and through many resources.
My vision for technology is that everyone will have the opportunity to pursue their goals. The tools will be available to enable a person to learn what they need and when they need it. Learning will not be confined to the walls of a school building but will take place as authentically as possible in a real world setting. Learning technology tools and their purpose will be the key for learning in the future.
For any of the above to happen, the tools necessary have to be readily available to everyone as needed. When a person can comfortably use technology in all aspects of their lives, then it's integrated and no one will give it a second thought, like using a ruler or a watch. This is my vision for technology. The WOW factor will be on what is learned or gained and not on the technology. The mentality has to be that finding the information through technology is the norm and not that technology is the answer. We have so many people with a basic knowledge of technology for entertainment and some productivity, that the technology available is not used to its full potential.
A person needs to fix a roof; a problem. They go on line to watch videos, talk to experts, get immediate feedback on their ideas, send an image to clarify the goal and then they decide what to do for their goal to be met. They can hire someone with confidence or do it themselves now that they understand what it takes to solve the problem. No where in the scenario was the answer just given. As we move into the 21st century problems, questions, answers and solutions will be complex. The tools we use are also complex and will have to be understood and used effectively. This is the future of technology.
We need to understand what it is that we want to know and then how to use the information that we receive for technology to be used to its full potential in making our lives more productive in all areas..
